Who we are
The Nottinghamshire Bobbin Lace Society was formed in 1975 (Yes, next year is our Golden Anniversary and we will be celebrating it!) to form a point of contact between local lace makers. Whilst we aim to help existing members by providing an opportunity to meet regularly, exchange advice & ideas, offer patterns & prickings and make supplies available we also aim to keep the craft alive by encouraging new members to learn this lovely craft.
We have a large membership from Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas who are all at different levels of expertise – novices through to people who have been making lace for 50+ years!!
We are a not for profit organisation which is run by a committee of a number of elected volunteers who organise all the events, look after the website and social media, keep records of the accounts etc.
What we do
Throughout the year, we have a lace event each month except December. There are opportunities for all levels of lace makers to meet at various Nottinghamshire locations – see our Events page.
Our memberships are renewed each year in January and each year, we have a bursary draw where 4 of our members, chosen at random, are gifted places on the Summer Residential Course, the Autumn One Day Course, or gift vouchers to spend on the suppliers who are present at our Lace Days.
We also raise money where we can from our raffles and equipment sales for local and nationwide charities.
About Lace Making
Making bobbin lace is a lovely craft where you can make all sorts of things from bookmarks, traditional designs to some really modern pieces.
Bobbin lace can be made as pictures to put on your walls, clothing accessories, bookmarks, christmas decorations, wedding garters and horseshoes, fans, coasters, tablecloths and so on, the list is endless!
We hold a courses as well as helping each other out in our Lace Days and Pop-Ins.
As well as the Society’s own Courses, Lace Days and Pop-Ins (see our Events page), there are a number of separate classes across the county with experienced tutors, plus some regular self help groups. A comprehensive list of these is held by the Society and available on request by using our contact form or by turning up at one of our Pop-ins or Lace Days.
