Summer Lace Day 2026

Summer Lace Day 2026
1st August 2026 Wendy Turner

This year our Summer Lace Day was held at a new location of the Ravenshead Village Hall on Saturday 25th July, which was a great venue (I suspect we may be using it again!)

What a lovely and rather busy day we had (we even had to share a timetable!!)  We had the Members’ exhibition and 3 awards, an excellent talk by the talented Claire Bonito of Bonitocrafts on her lace journey, our massive pre-loved sale and the usual raffle and cakes with the afternoon refreshments

As is standard for our Summer Lace Day, we had a lovely exhibition of members’ work and we voted for our favourites in the each of the annual awards categories.

Our winners were:

Jean Ashbery Award
Helen Wyte – winner
Sharon Scothern – runner up

David Hirst Award
Lesley Naylor – winner
Jean Ashbery – runner up

Hilda Marston Award
Jacqui Toyne – winner
Jean Breckenridge – runner up

Our speaker this time was the talented Claire Bonito of Bonitocrafts.   Claire told us all about her history and how she started making lace and how it eventually progressed into her business teaching and designing and now, an author too!  She also had brought along her new books so that anyone wanting a copy (or those who had already purchased one) could get them signed.

For those interested, the book is available on her website or via Roseground

In a slight change of format this year, instead of suppliers, we had a huge sale of donated pre-loved equipment raising money for this year’s charity – Guide Dogs for the Blind.   We had some wonderful items at bargain prices including some lovely pillows, pillow bags, bobbin bags and bobbins!  In fact, bargains to be had with every type of bobbin lace equipment you could think of including mounds of books and patterns.   All items were carefully priced so that it felt like a proper sale and not a jumble sale!!  Well done to the team who prepped everything in advance and those who helped on the day.
